The next Mozilla get-together will take place like every year in Brussels, in the FOSDEM's Mozilla room, on February 23 and 24.

FOSDEM is actually 2 events in one. First it's probably the largest Free Software and Open Source event in Europe, and it's totally free (of charge). It's messy, crowded, nerdy, fun and full of serendipity.

Second, Most large FLOSS projects (like Mozilla) have rooms there, where their contributors meet and work for 2 days. These rooms are open for everybody, so it's nice to meet in person with other contributors, but also engage with people working on other projects.

Oh, and if you need an additional justification, you can just pretend that you'll visit Brussels and will do some beer-tasting. Brussels offers many samples...

Comme tout les ans, le Fosdem s'est très bien passé pour nous, les mozilliens, et encore mieux même puisqu'il y avait plus de contributeurs, et une superbe soirée organisée par Mozilla-Europe pour fêter les 10 ans du projet Mozilla.

La liste des orateurs du FOSDEM 2005 a été publiée sur le site web de la manifestation. De grands noms comme Jimbo Wales (Wikipedia), Marty Roesch (Snort IDS), Alan Cox et bien d'autres seront présents. Et, cette année, vous pouvez soumettre vos questions à l'avance, pour les interviews qui seront publiées plus tard. Comme les années précédentes, se tiendront également des developers' rooms avec des conférences sur Mozilla, Gnome, KDE, etc.
Fosdem is going to take place next week-end in Brussels and like every year for so long that I can't even count[1], Mozilla is going to be there.

Mark Surman will be keynoting the main track on the Saturday morning. Like every year, we'll have a room packed with developers and great talks.
As a side note, we are sponsoring the event, not so much to get visibility (I'm pretty sure Mozilla does not need to be more visibility in the Free Software hackers' world) but to sustain Fosdem for all the good things it brings to Free Software in Europe and to celebrate what it has given to Mozilla over the years.
Mozilla is sponsoring travel expenses to roughly 80 Mozillians this time from all over Europe, and we'll get speakers from all over the world to discuss a whole bunch of things, ranging from technologies to community projects. More details are available on the Mozilla Wiki page about Fosdem 2009.
I'm looking forward this week-end in Brussels once again to spend long hours having passionate discussions with my fellow Free Software hackers[2]. Of course, as always, if you still don't consider yourself as a Mozillian, please come and talk to us, there is room for newcomers!

It's that time of the year again. No, I'm not referring to holidays, but the moment when the Mozilla Europe team starts working on the FOSDEM event. In 2010, FOSDEM will take place on the week-end of the 6th and 7th of February.

Mozilla has had a devroom at FOSDEM for the past 9 or 10 years (I only started attending in 2002, by distributing cool Mozilla T-shirts) and we all know how much the Mozilla project has changed over these years. For years ? when our resources were extremely limited ? FOSDEM has been a great opportunity for the Mozilla community in Europe to get together. But as Mozilla grew bigger, we have started organizing events ourselves, focused only on Mozilla:
Firefox+ Summit in 2008 in Whistler ;
Mozilla Camp in Barcelona in 2008
Mozilla Camp in Prague in 2009
European Inter-Community Meetup
Local community meetups in Poland and Germany to name a few.
The Mozilla Europe board and I have been thinking about the goals of Mozilla participating at FOSDEM, and we have decided to evolve things a bit. Now that we have our own events, it's time to approach FOSDEM differently and focus on making the Mozilla presence an opportunity to interface better with the other Free, Libre and Open Source communities. FOSDEM is wonderful in this regard, since it hosts dozens of other FLOSS projects, with people being able to work freely between devrooms.
